Can anyone help? - fostering puppies

Postby gringalais » Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:26 pm

I have been taking care of two puppies that were abandoned for the last few weeks. The problem is that I go on vacation this Friday. The woman who asked me to take them in assured me that they would find a home for them by the time I have left, but so far nothing has come up. They are about a month old, so they still need bottle feedings about 5 times a day.

My neighbors are going to take care of my other pets, but since they work during the week, they aren't available to come over as often as the little guys need. I am getting nervous about what will happen if I can't find someone to take them by Friday - we have non-refundable plane tickets and my husband has to take his vacation those days. It would be for two weeks or maybe less if a home is found in that time. I get back the 29th. They are pretty easy to care for at this point. They know how to drink from the bottle and spend most of their time sleeping when they are not eating. I would provide the puppy formula. If anyone can help, please send me a PM. Thanks!

I forgot to mention I live in Santiago and will transport them to your house.

Just a suggestion but is possible to find make someone responsible, (a neighbor or maybe a teenager you trust) to swing by during the time the people are at work to feed them in the interim. Or, if there an equivalent to a Humane Society maybe they could recommend someone. Worse case, could you board them?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have one neighbor I was thinking of asking. The problem is that she has a serious health issue and if she were to have an episode she is out of comission for a day or more and wouldn't be able to go check on them. She also lives with her elderly mom who isn't in the best of health either so any problem with the mom would make it hard to help with the pups. So, that is a despertion option if nothing else can be found. There are really no other neighbors I would trust with my house keys.

Boarding is too expensive. I've already spent quite a bit of money between puppy formula, vet, medication for deworming and for a skin problem one of them had. 2 animals for 2 weeks would not be cheap and I need money for the trip.

Humane Society - well I guess you didn't see the news about the Humane Society a few months ago . . .
