Good Friday survey in Reñaca:

Banco de Chile 2500 pesos
BCI 3300 pesos
Scotiabank Redbank only accessible during banking hours
Banco Itaú "your ID no is not recognised" (why??????? they belong to PLUS network)

none would allow 400.000 pesos withdrawal, all ok with 375.000 (except Itaú who don't want to know me)

Report on ChileGringos of a fee at Corp Banca on Saturday.

Can anyone confirm and also their partner Banco Condell?

BCI 3,300 peso atm fee

Postby admin » Mon Apr 05, 2010 5:07 pm

I just got a 3,300 pesos fee at a BCI ATM in a pharmacy. The screen asked still if you agree to 2,500 but both the receipt and what I was refunded by my bank in the states ($6.33) confirms it. I almost never have a reason to stray from my normal ATM, but today they were out of cash over the long weekend.

Unfortunately CorpBanca appears to have gone over to the dark side  . I got charged 2500 today at one of their ATMs in Santiago Centro. Schwab should refund me the money, but still . . .

Scotiabank/Temuco: no fee (yesterday). One-time 375.000 pesos withdrawal confirmed. The ATM (Bulnes con Varas, Temuco center) accessible 24/7. Didn't try Banco Condell (for Corp Banca was reported bad).

Interesting report from the ChileGringos list:
I take money out of my Bank of America account at ScotiaBank ATMs. The two banks are part of the Global ATM Alliance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_ATM_Alliance), so there's neither an out-of-network ATM fee (on the part of either bank), nor a currency exchange fee by BofA. I just logged into my BofA account; my last ScotiaBank withdrawals were in April in Chile and May in Canada and there were still no fees. The exchange rate for the last Chilean withdrawal was comparable to what's on xe.com for that day, so I think all in all it's a pretty sweet deal. I expect it to end any minute, of course!

SO AGAIN, a call to USA B of A ATM debit card holders in Chile to verify.

Yet another Scotiabank's peso dispenser still does its job, with no fee (5/19/2010).

Wholeheartedly ejecting numerous 10.000 peso notes from it's mouth, then spitting your receipt, and then.. you know, a small 2g pack of NESCAFE! *

* Please note: you must press the "Yes" button when you see the "Would you like a gift from NESCAFE?" screen. The "gift" emerges from a kind of "coffee hole" in the ATM (just below the main peso dispenser).

Well, i got a story for everyone.

I have had an etrade checking account for about 8 years. Since etrade started their bank. I have always gotten a refund on the ATM transaction fees charged by other bank atm. Last month out of the blue, I quit getting my ATM refunds on my etrade account.

I filed a complaint. Yesterday, I get a call from etrade telling me that they conducted an investigation and determined that I was getting the ATM refunds all this time as a systems glitch. Really? 8 year systems glitch? You are telling me that not only my account, but likly many more were getting ATM refunds for 8 years? That must be millions of dollars lost, and no one caught it for 8 years?

The story is that it was an error about when I opened the account. We are talking $100,000 of refunds likly just on my account over the years from all ends of the earth.

Well, the even smellier part of that story is that I opened a second etrade checking account just 2 years ago. It also had ATM refunds. So, they are saying the systems glitch continued with new accounts also?

So, now I have to upgrade the checking account to their Max checking account. Which means the whole mess of waiting for papers cards and so on to go around the World, in order to get the free ATM refund. Then close my checking account I have had for 8 years, as there is no way to convert it . Complete mess. I smell a move by the management to squeeze more money out of their clients, as the new checking account has monthly fees and other goodies attached to it.

By the way, I have also discovered that they no longer allow you to wire money out of the country unless it is to a bank account in your own name. You can not like buy a car, and wire the money to third-party. That never existed when I started with them. They claim it is a new banking regulation.

Interestingly enough, my buddy was bitching about some issues he was having with E-Trade just last week. Must be something smelly on that stove.

Happy to report no fee at the newly officially converted to Scotiabank (ex-Banco De Desarrollo) in San Antonio. All very shiny and pretty with their new red signs. Makes me think of Canada. We actually have a Neteller account and use their Mastercard as well. I had forgotten to try them out at the Banco de Estado down the hill, but probably should. My Scotiacards don't work there because they're on the plus network, but in theory, my Neteller Mastercard should. It's one of those Mastercard check cards which draws directly from your account... will report back with my experiment in case anyone else uses e-wallets.

As far as Bank of America, I can verify that I used to use BofA in the States all the time when I wanted to use my Canadian account. No fees. I always used Chase for my American banking out there. They were ok. Nothing spectacular, but they never screwed anything up for me. Was happy to go back to Scotiabank when I got back to Canada though. Lost my bank card a few weeks ago because I'm a 'tard. Was very bummed, assumed it would be a huge hassle. Contacted my banker in Toronto via email and she canceled lost card, issued a new one, had it mailed to a friend of mine who mailed it out snail mail right away. Took less than two weeks to get my new card from the time I lost it. Not bad!
Does anyone want a very sweet little puppy, she's vaccinated and fixed...
