Well, i got a story for everyone.
I have had an etrade checking account for about 8 years. Since etrade started their bank. I have always gotten a refund on the ATM transaction fees charged by other bank atm. Last month out of the blue, I quit getting my ATM refunds on my etrade account.
I filed a complaint. Yesterday, I get a call from etrade telling me that they conducted an investigation and determined that I was getting the ATM refunds all this time as a systems glitch. Really? 8 year systems glitch? You are telling me that not only my account, but likly many more were getting ATM refunds for 8 years? That must be millions of dollars lost, and no one caught it for 8 years?
The story is that it was an error about when I opened the account. We are talking $100,000 of refunds likly just on my account over the years from all ends of the earth.
Well, the even smellier part of that story is that I opened a second etrade checking account just 2 years ago. It also had ATM refunds. So, they are saying the systems glitch continued with new accounts also?
So, now I have to upgrade the checking account to their Max checking account. Which means the whole mess of waiting for papers cards and so on to go around the World, in order to get the free ATM refund. Then close my checking account I have had for 8 years, as there is no way to convert it . Complete mess. I smell a move by the management to squeeze more money out of their clients, as the new checking account has monthly fees and other goodies attached to it.
By the way, I have also discovered that they no longer allow you to wire money out of the country unless it is to a bank account in your own name. You can not like buy a car, and wire the money to third-party. That never existed when I started with them. They claim it is a new banking regulation.
