Re: ATM fee and limits?

Postby MaryJo on Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:35 am

No ATM fees at Banc Corpa or Itau since this weekend.

BUT I was wondering if there has been any changes that anyone has noticed in the amounts you can take out? I haven't been able to call my bank yet, but there hasn't been anything from them that says they're changing my limits. I just spoke with them on Friday, and got cash from Itau ATM Friday too.... On Sunday we stopped to get cash but could not get more than $40.000 CLP. Has anyone had problems getting cash out of the ATM machines over the weekend? Is this some imposed weekend limit?

Thanks in advance! - mj

Did you try withdrawing again right away?

Sometimes, when I use the Banco de Desarollo machine in San Antonio, it tells me I can only withdraw up to a limit of 20 000 pesos. I talked to the bank about it and they said sometimes if it's having problems, or is running low on certain bills, it will only let you withdraw a small amount. He told me I can withdraw again right away but to not do so more than 4 times in a row.

Anyhow, that's what I do when I get a limit from the bank machine and it's a no-fee machine. I just withdraw again right away. I don't get charged here or in Canada regardless of how often I withdraw in a day, provided I use Scotiabank.

Very valuable information. We now know what triggers a card eating situation or he was just another chileno passing gas out of his mouth.

I also think it is a machine problem or cash stock issue vs. the exact amount you type in problem. In more than one situation with identical ATMs next to each other, I've had a no go, transaction rejected on one machine and a perfect transaction on the other for the same asking amount.

Be glad this is Chile and not Argentina as I've frequently heard rejected transactions end up taking money from your account in Argiescamland.

Ok.. I'll try this. The only thing was we went to 2 different banks and it was the same for both. I'll check this out again today... hopefully what ever the glitch, it will be sorted out.

Not sure if anyone has posted about this before.... I had to go to a local ATM instead of the Scotiabank one in San Antonio that I prefer to use. I went to the BCI machine in the local Cruz Verde and those wankers upped the fee to $3300 pesos  Thankfully the pharmacists don't speak english because I had a few choices words to say to that machine before I left. I walked up to the machine in the supermarket instead which is Banco de Chile and only charges $2500 pesos.

Man I hate having to take out money somewhere other than Scotiabank. That's wasted beer money

Will update the list tomorrow.

Any other banks with the increase?

I'd say coordinated as Argentina also recently upped their per use ATM fee.

Thanks audeo.

I again highly recommend everyone get a good CIRRUS ATM card to take advantage of Banco Estado machines.

Also looking for a Bank of America ATM card holder to test what happens on a Santander machine.

Audeo - I can't find any San Antonio 24 hour ATM on Scotiabank's website. Where are they? You've given us an even better reason to search out fee-free macines.

Yeah it's the Banco del Desarrollo de Scotiabank. The fellow there told me that they're slowling working towards converting fully to Scotiabank. It's across from the Johnson's Department store I believe, right next to Paris bank. It's the closest one to my town unless I go to Valpo. If you're in Reñaca though, the one in Viña in the Plaza is probably the closest one to you no? Anyhow, I remember hearing that Scotiabank was going to start adding more machines around the country, so here's hoping they start doing well!

Both my UK banks have just written to me saying that they're changing my cirrus card for a visa one. Fortunately I have a Chilean account, but it seems like they're on the decline...
