Re: ATM fee

HI.

To provide some feedback on someones quiery about aussie banks/cards in Chile. I have just finished some extensive research and it appears there is one aussi credit/ATM card that does not charge ANY currency conversion or any ATM withdrawal fees. The bonus with this card is you can place credit funds on the card so you can use it as a saving account and avoid cash advance fees. Credit Card is done by Wizard (GE MONEY). I have just applied for it amd will get it next week. In the past I have always use Commowealth/ANZ and NAB cards in Chile. All charge the 2% currency cobersion and $5 withdrawal fee. This claim is verified on some aussi blog sites by people already using this card overseas.

Some good news to report regarding Schwab. I have been able to avoid the fee almost always, but recently needed to take money out at the airport in Puerto Montt where they only had Banco de Chile ATMs. I just looked at my account online and they refunded me the ATM fee that was charged for that transaction here.

I've used the Banco BICE atm on Isidora Goyenchea with my Canadian RBC card without any fees. Scotia was charging but it seemed to last about a month before they dropped the fee. My card never works with Banco Estado for some reason.
Did anyone else notice that as soon as Santander implemented the fee, the Unimarc at Tobalaba (around the corner from Flannery's and hotels full of tourists going on cruises) switched to the fee-less Corpbanca ATMs?

The closest ATM to my house is in a Unimarc too. They also changed from Santander to Corpbanca a few months ago. Very convenient for me.

Re: ATM fee and limits?

Postby MaryJo » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:35 am

No ATM fees at Banc Corpa or Itau since this weekend.

BUT I was wondering if there has been any changes that anyone has noticed in the amounts you can take out? I haven't been able to call my bank yet, but there hasn't been anything from them that says they're changing my limits. I just spoke with them on Friday, and got cash from Itau ATM Friday too.... On Sunday we stopped to get cash but could not get more than $40.000 CLP. Has anyone had problems getting cash out of the ATM machines over the weekend? Is this some imposed weekend limit?

Thanks in advance! - mj

Did you try withdrawing again right away?

Sometimes, when I use the Banco de Desarollo machine in San Antonio, it tells me I can only withdraw up to a limit of 20 000 pesos. I talked to the bank about it and they said sometimes if it's having problems, or is running low on certain bills, it will only let you withdraw a small amount. He told me I can withdraw again right away but to not do so more than 4 times in a row.

Anyhow, that's what I do when I get a limit from the bank machine and it's a no-fee machine. I just withdraw again right away. I don't get charged here or in Canada regardless of how often I withdraw in a day, provided I use Scotiabank.
