Charles Schwab says on their website that they will refund any "foreign" ATM fees for their bank users.

  THAT sounds interesting! I hope someone can confirm.

Argentina ATM fee

Postby eeuunikkeiexpat » Tue Dec 01, 2009 10:26 pm

Argentina ATM Fee Data Point - November 2009

Used a LINK machine. Had no problem taking out 800 ARS. Only got hit with a 11.44 ARS fee. When exchanged into USD, this fee is added to the USD amount I took out to determine the 1% currency exchange fee for my card. On my statement, each fee is clearly marked.

The other network is BANELCO which I did not want to waste time experimenting with as many have reported sporadic 320 ARS or similar max w/d caps.

Re: ATM fee and Scotiabank

Postby audeo13 » Wed Dec 09, 2009 3:19 am

So this is good news for my fellow Canucks if you're a Scotiabank user... withdrew cash from a Banco del Desarrollo in San Antonio on Dec. 3rd. No fees. Not on the Chilean end or the Canadian end. I notice that on their site now, their name is Banco del Desarrollo de Scotiabank. So I guess that answers someone's earlier question as to whether Scotiabank taking over would give us more options for fee-free transactions in Chile.

I'm just happy to have an option like this nearby as before this, the closest Scotiabank to me was in Viña :)

I have used Scotia Bank Sud Americano for the last couple of years for cash withdrawals from our Canadian Account and we have been charged about $5 on the Chile end but nothing on the Canadian side. It will be interesting to see if that has changed when we arrive in January. I don't see any Banco del Desarrollo in the area we stay so I guess for $5 I'll bite the bullet.

Bank Direct Savings ATM-only (no debit feature) CIRRUS card

Postby eeuunikkeiexpat » Wed Dec 23, 2009 4:28 pm

No per use fee US bank side.
No per use fee at CIRRUS-only Banco Estado ATMs.

Apparently not exchange rate percentage fee free from what I can tell.

Received about a 1.2% rate from the real time xe.com rate which is about what I get with Everbank on the PLUS system.

No account minimum or obnoxious fees. Can use Citibank's online platform to push and pull funds via ACH.

Even better news. Was later automatically reimbursed USD 2.50 for a non-existent ATM fee. From the Ts & Cs, this can happen up to 4 times per month. So my effective percentage for this transaction was actually (-)0.67% from xe.com!
