OK, OK, you win. I discuss exactly what I mean & why. You certainly needn't agree, though cogent reasons for disagreement would be nice.

You say my cake is not yummy. Easy & obvious? There's a maldescription if ever I heard one. "Thought" is a liberal word or I evidently am caricatured to think that "thought" is a liberal word. I simply cannot prevail against this sort of logic. I lose. My team loses, got it. Cannot beat the Cake Argument or bear that someone is "thinking", must cede.

I do not agree at all with how you "argue". Tastes great (yummy, umm, "cake", nicely written), less filling (no substance). Nonetheless, I hope you have a good trip. I like your Chile posts, both for content and style. I hope this "argument" was an unfortunate abberation.

Perhaps, J.H., our deliberately obscurantist friend intended by

to indicate that mustering a purely rational argument is too difficult and too arcane for some folk.

It is true that many, perhaps most, people weight feellings and emotions more than intellectual analysis when voting -- or choosing a car, or trying to discern what goes on in the world. This may be as it should ("the heart has reasons, that reason cannot know"). It certainly seems to be inevitable and unchangeable.

Puelche,

OK, I spaced on the arrow thingie. I am far too bored with the dialogue to comment on sharing. Sounds like my cake will never sell, for it does not taste good or otherwise trip the correct sensation - and as RWS suggests, that is what it is about. It just doesn't feel good, nor shall it, so sorry. If that is to be the measure, the liberals will always beat the conservatives, for what feels good now is what they are all about. What feels good now is yummy and so much easier to sell in the form of a deeelicious cake. What happens to people who eat nothing but cake? Chased with some Kool-Aid, no doubt.

Have fun plotting the downfall of Western Civ. If you see Howell Raines or Pinch Sulzberger, etc., please pee in their coffee for me. And tell Gore to stay away from the organic ho-ho's, he's clearly had enough of those.

RWS,

Hit the nail on the head. Feelings, nothing more than feeeeeelings. I just want Hope, Change, Progress and Other People's Money, please don't bore me with the details. And God Forbid, do not ask me to think when I can emote. From now on, I think I'm going to argue based on my feelings. I suspect that me & my feeeeeeelings will not be well received. Probably not equally valid. And tained by all sorts of ignoble motives. Mean & uncaring, etc.

I wonder how many miracle drugs feelings invented. I wonder how many bridges feelings have built. And so on. Looks like we will find out.

Sad.

Shame on you John! Shame, shame, shame. Were would we be if Al didn't create the internet. When the internet was created it was small. In the years since its birth it has grown quite large. If Gore wants to keep up with the growth of his creation, let him. At least it is organic ho-ho's.

mlightheart,

Well, I do see your point. At the risk of sounding insensitive, something I would never, ever, ever want to do:

I believe Al Gore has consumed more than his share of Gaia's resources. I also believe that we can quickly prove this belief of mine, perhaps with a simple glance in the Green One's direction. I believe we should redistribute Al's unfair share elsewhere. And given that he has enjoyed that unfair share for so long, I believe that social justice requires redistribution of all of Al to somewhere like....Honduras?

Of course, one could ask what ever did they do to deserve such sharing from us.

RWS,

As El P pointed out, what I give is not very popular.

Did have a school board member approach me about running for same. Problem is, I would make a full time job of it. I haven't quite that much time just yet. And perhaps not the patience to keep from throttling some who desperately need it.

Appreicate the thought, I know you've practiced it quite heavily.

I think that Al might just be planning on giving back to the people. I don't know if it is true or not, but if you go to a Dunkin Donuts, you can order a Gore to go. A box of assorted organic donuts. You actually get 13, one extra to eat while you are carrying the dozen.

I am sure you can get a Darth Vader image to use as an avatar. But you have to remember, Darth Vader still had some good in him. You probably want to get a Darth Sidious image. He was a smooth talker and all evil inside.
