My wife seems to think there was a recent change that somewhat decriminalized it for personal use, but says she has not kept up on it. Still I would not recommend starting your plantation just yet. Smoking a joint is one thing, growing it in industrial quantities is a whole different show. If you grew just corn in sufficiently large quantities to be really profitable you would be under all kinds of regulations also.

So uh Charles ? Any luck having your students pull the recent law on the books? I read the article posted but it didn't mention any personal use loop-holes. Just wondering....

Yea I got a bit more information, and guess what? It is even crazier than any of us imagined.

It is legal to possess personal use marijuana in Chile. I am still trying to get a definition of the amounts and such.

However, there is a really crazy catch. When they say "personal use", they mean "personal use". It is illegal to smoke marijuana with another person. So if you are at a party, and want to smoke, you can legally step in to a closet and light up. If your friend joins you in the closet, now you have committed a crime.

There is actually a political campaign going on to correct this in the law, because 9 times out of 10 when someone gets busted it is group of teenagers at a party sharing a joint.

Likely a good way to control the flue outbreak.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Leave it to Chile to have ridiculous loop-holes. Ah well, I don't smoke anything myself. I bake brownies :D I wonder what kind of wrench that would throw in their loop holes...

Te answer for the loop-hole is a simple one… It is for medicinal use not recreational use. Some one using it to treat a medical condition wouldn’t be sharing with anyone.

I hear, as of 2010 i believe, that the laws have been toughened even further. It seems Chile is in a big hurry to follow the States lead in every illogical policy possible.

Has the issue of the "33 miners" and their dope-smoking whilst underground made the popular press?

To deal with the, uh, stress I guess.

It is legal to possess personal use marijuana in Chile.

Thus I imagine, "by default" fashion, it should be legal to have at least 2 plants (one male and one female, for pollination) to grow said mj for 'personal use'.....

Ultimately, silence (from carabineros) = consent

I believe in Canada as well it is one thing to smoke a joint (still illegal) but passing or sharing a joint is trafficking. Stupid law.
