Ooohhh! i'm going to save this, bookmark it or put the info into my handy dandy notebook - I'm a true bookaholic and was concerned about how I would manage my vice after "the move" - thanks!

I plan on getting a Kindle (from Amazon) whenever we get back, but this might be a good alternative in the meantime. Have you ordered and gotten your books? Any trouble with customs declarations? Thanks again!

Vicki

You may want to consider the Sony version of the kindle, I forget the name. Less expensive and I've read it has fewer kinks...

yes Free international delivery - most of the books were cheaper then what I paid for them in Australian book stores too.

hmm I think it took a few weeks- one was a boxed set of books too- so free postage on that was a major bonus

Okay so ordered 27/12 and got them last weekend. So just under 1 month

For anyone in Valpo, there's a little book feria going on at the moment really near Bellavista metro station. It's just a group of stalls, but one of them had a smallish pile of English language books, probably about 20. I picked up a Gabriel Garcia Marquez short story collection and a Maya Angelou novel I thought were worth reading for about 3,000 CLP each, which I thought wasn't shabby.

And I hear that the Instituo Britanico Chileno de Cultura in Vina (3 Norte) has a library. Their main website is here: http://www.institutochilenobritanico.cl ... /index.php and the library catalogue here:
Their catalogue is here: http://www.institutochilenobritanico.cl ... /index.php I remember reading that it's open to the public and has a pretty decent sized collection.

Long-term, I would definitley be up for a book exchange.

I was at the institutochilenobritanico today and had a look at the library of over 2000 books in 2 rooms. Its 10000 pesos a year to join. You can read at the library or take up to 2 or 3 books a week to your home .The american institute is just around the corner so will check it out next time to see if it has a similar set up.

I have a reasonably large collection of used paperbacks that I have (mostly)brought back from the states on various trips and have been read and re-read. Almost all fiction and pretty diverse collection. And it's time to sell a lot of them as we are going back to the states before winter here and will join spring/summer there. We will be back as Chile gets warm again :D but are running out of room for books. I don't have a list together yet but a lot of different stuff from Nelson DeMille to Stephen KIng to John Grisham to Elmore Leonard to Larry McMurtry. Quite a few mystery/horror types. Also a lot of NYT bestsellers and quality paperbacks. I have to run some errands but, if anyone is interested, pm me and I'll answer later. I don't have specific prices in mind but am thinking 2500 pesos a book with increasing discounts for increasing volume buying.

I am about 40 minutes SE of Santiago.
