"out of 27 items purchased....6 not functioning...returned and told no refunds...YEAH...Im Scottish, good luck keeping my money!!!
9 other items were incomplete, parts missing or broken components...4 of which I exchanged and 3 of which had the same issues....upon speaking with the manager ( who didnt care 1 iota) i decided to leave the store before I gave myself an annurism of frustration."
To get back to the crap service and away from the grammar issues
Our three worst experiences in Chile were these:
A: buying a flat-screen TV in Paris (sales guy had minimum english and we had no spanish). We were offered a free wall-mount which we didn't want but took because it was offered. Paid the price, the Paris guys got it from out back, carried down to the car and we took it home. Upon opening the TV box hubby looked at it and said "this has been used". He could see the marks on the back of the TV where the wall-mount had been previously attached. He stopped then and put it all back in the box.
We phoned a Chileno friend who came with us to the store where they sheepishly went and got a new one for us and changed it over. I'm sure without our friend it would have been a far longer experience.
B: having alot of our stuff purchased for the apartment on our agents company account. Sodimac at Av Kennedy were quite good. They gave us a person to walk around with, i pointed to large stuff (fridge, washer etc) and she wrote it down, and I threw smaller stuff in the trolley. This took about an hour all up.
Then we went to the Factura check-out and it took TWO AND A HALF HOURS to process the bill and organise delivery. I was about to commit suicide at the end of it.
To top it off, when they delivered, we ended up with TWO FRIDGES and zero vacuum cleaners. Don't you think when they were looking at this that they would wonder why two fridges had been ordered and perhaps phone to check?
C: Buying a Christmas tree at Sodimac (one of the ones with the lights permanently attached). Got it home and the lights didn't work. took it back -with very bad spanish and had to argue for them to exchange it (and pre-test it). Finally got that sorted out, but was back in the store a week later and saw the very same tree sitting on the shelf for sale. For goodness sake - it's broken - throw the bloody thing out - don't sell it to unsuspecting gringos!!!!
It's so nice to be back in a country where you don't even need to receipt at the larger places to return stuff.
