Now, this is interesting to me because Easy has been fine (as has Jumbo) for me, but Sodimac is always a nightmare! We have been renovating our apartment and spending an inordinate time there, and we joke that everyone comes up to you to ask if you need help when you look like you don't, but as soon as you look like you do, they flee. It's quite like Home Depot...

Shoot, I didn't even realize Easy HAD employees. I looked around, found no one, but ended up getting all my questions answered by other shoppers...

You do know who owned that chain BEFORE the chilenos moved in as Sodimac? A legacy of another failed USA business in Chile. :)

Easy is a real DIY store.

I had to give on the job training to the employees in order to checkout. I waisted 20 mins waiting for a manager to show up, just to push some flashing button for the girl. I finally got tired and explained how scanners and cash registers work. I had two items that where exactly the same, but one of the bar codes was damaged. She did not understand she could just swipe the same bar code twice. The manager never did show up.

I was with a friend once who had to complain becuase a closet she ordered had never arrived although somehow the delivery men miraculously had a work order with her signature. Suffice to say, they would not refund her money. They said that because she would have had to pay in quotas to get the sale price they were going to take the money off in quotas over like 2 years. Then they shipped her a new closet which arrived late.

I was told (Casa Royal) that Chile has a law on returns-that most things can be returned by law within 2 weeks or 30 days. I did have to return it and it was no problem.

It seems like some businesses are getting a little smarter. Some places are proud to have an English speaker they bring out for gringos. I've seen that in Homecenter, Lider and casa royal among others. Many businesses think they are the "only game in town" and take advantage of that. But that is less and less true I think.

On another business note, the local fruit stand has expanded and is busy all the time. Next door, a small restaurant has opened selling empanadas and a few other things and they sell out quickly and have expanded too. I love the small businesses here-both of these are in the front of typical family compounds(groups of family houses built on the same property). I have a feeling another neighbor will soon take advantage of this business boom :D

This is the reason to keep your boletos. No boleto, no return and refund or replacement. Ley de Consumidor tells all.

Actually, try to keep your boletA. A boleto could be the 'boleto de micro' or boleto de teatro or boleto para el partido de futbol; and you wouldn't get very far with those.

It's the little things.

Ooops.

But those other boletOs are important. If the micro gets into an accident, that is your proof to get medical compensation from the micro empresa, gov, etc.

just had a "wonderful" experience at Paris. (Paris/Jumbo/Easy are all part of CENCOSUD). Weekend before last, they had a big sale. Thirty per cent off on various items if you pay by their card. So, they have this big sign saying TODAS LAS PARKAS, TODAS LAS MARCAS, and another rack where they have a sign, 24.990 Parkas. I took photos.
parka or casaca.jpg
Parka or not? If it were just ONE garment out of them all, I could accept an error. But it was ALL of them.

Heh. So, they have a particular item on the rack, and we pick out the size that Vivi wants, and we go to pay for it. Oh, no, this is a CASACA. No discount. I say, NO, this is from THAT RACK that says PARKA, and this sign says 30% off. Examination of all the labels shows NOTHING that indicates neither Parka nor "casaca". I stand my ground. I want the discount. Get the boss. Maribel Perez shows up, and denies the discount. I say, I want to talk to YOUR boss. She says, there isn't anyone else, they are all on a day off. Only the section heads are in charge. And they are all equal. I say, (bullsh¡t) impossible, you cannot have a major department store functioning like this. There must be ONE person in charge. After several threats, I leave her to go upstairs to the service counter, where I encounter Sandra, a very nice young lady whose job it is to arrange for bridal registry. She is very helpful in getting me calmed down, patiently listening to my story, saying oh, good, you have photos. She picked up the phone and asked someone, who is in charge, ahh, Carlos. Carlos comes up and talks to me, is in full agreement. I will get the discount. I can't locate Viviana to be sure of which one it is that she wanted, so I have to come back the next day. I locate the garment, go and see Carlos (who is on his lunch). They call for him, he comes off his break just to see me, we have a nice conversation. They gift wrap the coat. I suggest to him that Maribel needs a bit of training, and she could have avoided a big scene if she had done her job (which would have been to NOT piss off a customer, and gotten a superior). He tells me that he did have a talk with her already on exactly that subject. We part, and I am happy. Viviana is delighted.

dont get my started on Paris....

im still waiting for 123,000 peso refund 4 months later, partly my fault, mostly theirs, my fault because i never have time to go to paris to get the $$$, their fault because only the sales man who made the sale and organised the refund can give me my money, and he is never there when i go in!, When he is not there they say, sorry because you didnt fill in a form when you cancelled your order you cant have a refund, im saying will you didnt deliver my bed, therefore you give me a refund, next time i might just take my reciept in with me and walk out the front door with a bed that i cancelled, i have a reciept, what can they do?

everything works fine here as long as there are no specials, and you dont need a refund!!!, other than that the people working int he stores are just too dumb to do anything other than what they are trained to do
