Re: Walmart considering opening bank in Chile

Every time I go to the bank to use the ATM the lines are so long I think it is a 'run' on the bank. Never, ever have I had to wait in line for more than a min. or two in the US. Incredible. The other day we went in to try and open one of those accts. that all Chileans can have. Had to wait in line for 40 min. to simply hand the person our filled out form. Ridiculous!! There were 3 people working in this area and they all seemed to be just standing around looking busy, but doing nothing. I cannot believe that Chileans put up with this...they should riot and demand a more efficient process. How do they possibly have the time to waste standing in line forever to cash a check or make a dep.? And Correo Chile...don't even get me started...

Use an ATM at the store or the gas station then. If you're talking about teller lines, avoid the 15th and the last day of the month like the plague.

We (Chileans and us visitors) don't. In my case if I do have to actually go to the bank I go during work hours, which is commonplace for any tramite here. So employers apparently have the time to waste. Also, remember that you can make deposits at ServiPag depending on your bank... Online banking also exists.

Although I must say that setting up the account & online banking was a huge pain, my bank isn't that terrible now that I have them. My ejecutiva takes care of requests for me over e-mail and I can do just about anything else online. Yeah the service sucks but that's Chile. 8)
