Dude, I agree with you on tons. But when you start referring to Chile as basically not civilized.....we part ways. Hoooo, boy, will that overshadow your more relevant & accurate message. Substandard in re electrical codes, etc? Sure. Not civilized? I don't think so. And just in case you missed it, I am not exactly some leftie liberal PC douscher.

Been there, done that. Sarcasm does not always translate well online. I've learned that the way I learn everything else - the Hard Way. One has to be a bit more obvious that one is in fact being sarcastic sans tone of voice, facial expressions, etc. Just saying, BTDT.

I can testify than JHyre is easily confused and will only understand very direct, non-ambiguous statements. Like jab-jab-cross-hook-uppercut.

Also note that JHyre, being the big talking American blue dog pussy that he is, begged for boxing training 2x a week then weaseled out as soon as the going got remotely tough. But I digress. Or am I?

Patagonix..Shuko plugs are better. but the pin diameter is bigger than the standard Chile socket holes, so people either cut the plug off or use an adapter, which defeats the object of using them in the first place. I actually use a few of the somewhat clunky UK BS1363 13Amp plugs and sockets, which IMHO are the safest domestic outlets in the world, (polarized, internal fuse, flame-retardant materials, solid brass contacts, shrouded pins, shuttered outlet etc etc.)
Here, as you mention, the Bticino dual 10/16Amp socket modules are the best of a bad bunch.

When I mentioned ratings I was referring to domestic plugs. I have seen (and replaced) literally dozens of burnt "10 Amp" plugs on electric jug kettles, irons, and oil radiator heaters.

Regarding my advice on getting in an electrician, if you don't know anything about electricity, even a crappy sparky is better than none. As for SEC certified, it just means you pay more, that's all.

As someone who has been waiting over three months for a SEC inspector to come and check my new 3-phase installation I know enough about them already thanks.

I install standard Chilean BTicino 4,8mm Schuko 2-pin plus earth receptacles for the true Schuko plugs on IT equipment, just as in the civilised countries. It is true that low-amperage "standard" nonpolarised plugs for many common appliances have a smaller pin diameter, but true Schunko plugs and receptacles are available even at the Sodimacs. Olivier,

Actually, the Hershey Squirts I got at that parillada you took us to did me in. I figured trusting a godam Frog on food was a no-brainer. Must be that your status as an official Frenchie got revoked as soon as you went libertarian, along with the gentic predisposition towards food that will not kill you. On the bright side, if you punch me in the stomach in my present condition....fight over, allllll over. Just don't tell the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy Panjamdrums that I am friendly with a Froggie or they will take away my secret decoder ring. Freedom Fries, baby, Freedom Fries.

Sheesh, call him one nasty little name and he gets all Rambo on you.

John Hyre, Please Use Little Words When Being Sarcastic

PS: The parillada was worth it.

PPS: You have not lived until you've heard a Texan try and speak French....or a Frenchman pronounce "biaaatch"

Hey Olivier,

What he said! Ditto, ditto, ditto! You DID mention to me that the French have a very strange, sophmoric sense of humor, and strange Facebook groups for all sorts of random things. But an amour for le merde, pre-dating Al Gore's invention of the internet? Body-fluid humor, yay!

Patagoniax,

I thought I was kidding about poop hitting fan, etc. This takes us to a new....low? High? New.....well, something.

I see patagoniax that you're taking sides, though kudos for quoting Baudelaire en français dans le texte.

Did you know American kids shit in their diapers a year longer on average than French ones? I'm just saying...
