I know. It is not allowed to speak about rain in Southern Chile on this board. But, some water is constantly coming from the sky here at Lago Puyehue. Five days in a raw. It is definitely water. Because all is wet. Coming and coming. And my shoes are wet, my socks are wet, my sewing machine is all wet, my thread and needles are all wet. Even my pants are all wet. Is it not rain?.. Or just Some Water From The Sky?..

Well, René, I'm trying. I'm now honestly trying to use a gas estufa to dry my pants. It doesn't work.. But I must dry them! If I return from the South of Chile.. with my pants wet.. then everyone will think there was some r@in in the South!

Can I just use a microwave oven to dry my clothes?.....

Rune, you can but remove the zipper and iron buttons first ......and read the lable for shrinking, otherwise maybe you'll go home in shorts

And only you can tell if that is a sight worth to see

....hey, you're in the south MAYBE it will become a genuine lederhose, it fits the 'aleman en el sur'

you can talk about rain in Southern Chile (hard to hide), and I am glad to see it this year. More than a bit late. You just can not talk about it in this thread.

How did we get from the exchange rate to rain? When it rains it pours?

Resurrecting this thread, it seems there are a couple of things on the table that may affect the $ exchange rate next week:

1) Another Central Bank interest rate cut on Thursday (yeah, like that ever made a difference recently):

2) The Central Bank finishing up its $50M daily auctions for the current $4bn stimulus package:

Not sure how much medium-term impact these will have, but they could put a bit of downward pressure on the peso in the near future (yeah, like I have ever forecast it correctly).

Maybe he's already sailing here. He always seemed to be coming imminently...

Apparently the government announced yesterday the extension of this programme to $4bn (causing the dollar to drop a couple of percent today, though last time the initial drop wasn't very long lived). So if the auctions are daily, that would amount to a 5 week extension.

We are going in to an election year, and the economy is finally starting to show some real signs of slowdown on the ground. Unemployment is accelerating, winter is setting in, and the steam has come off the real estate and construction in a big way.

I had read the amount of the new auction as an additional $1bn to make up the original $3bn to 4, but it looks like I may have misunderstood and it's really another $4bn (or 5 months' worth rather than 5 weeks').

Looks like the recent effort to boost the peso against the dollar has been working. Since the article the peso has been consistently gaining ground against the dollar...

The peso jumped 5.1 percent this week to 535.75 per dollar, its biggest gain since February. It advanced to 534.70 yesterday, the strongest level since Sept. 24.
