Well, it looks like we got the perfect storm in terms of the peso coming:

Weak dollar, some signs of life in commodities markets, Chile central bank looking to strengthen the peso.

Yes, I cut my losses and changed my dollars last week... Doesn't look too good, but I suppose we have been doing pretty well for a few months.

No doubt! They seem to feed off each other; so maybe, just maybe, the trend will go the other way for a while?!?

I think so... still packing, studying my Spanish, visiting with friends and family, all the things I need to do before I leave in 2 weeks! The good news is, I have a contract on my house! Pray for no hiccups in that regard!

In regards to the market... I think it may be a tad early to breathe any sigh of relief!

Good To Hear.

I'm pretty sure we'll be taking a few more nose dives yet over the coming months. I'm just dipping my toes at the moment...In and Out... much like swimming in the lake here.

if you want to know the real (and official) value you gotta go to http://www.bcentral.cl/index.htm
and there show 579 but in economiaynegocios.cl was 577 http://diario.elmercurio.com/2009/03/24 ... 8BCDC0D32A

i know that many of you cant read in spanish but there are the first sources allways

I don't think that's true. The ("observado") value at bcentral.cl is just indicative. Actually I'm not 100% sure what it's for (other than the statistical record), but the rate you get from the bank seems to correlate with hour-to-hour market fluctuations, not the daily dolar observado. Also, note that some of the people here are discussing the rates they get with their ATM cards from the US, which certainly wouldn't follow a Chilean government rate.

Cheers,

James.
