Could we try not to be so negative, please? I am trying to learn as much about Chile as I possibly can, and have spent a great deal of time researching things to make my time there as pleasant and economical as possible.

I'm sorry that you feel that you can be so flip and denegrating about my posts. I was simply trying to pass on some positive experiences and contacts to others who are as new at this as I am.

Trust me, I will not bother your readers with my posts again. As always, the uneducated ruin things for everyone.

Goodness, "apb", such a strong reaction to a bit of skepticism! The administrator's rules sensibly (for we've been subjected to spam many, many times) limit posting of weblinks to posters who've written at least twenty-five times in the forum. That one who's posted but four times should then included a live URL within her posting (even though a very useful one, thanks) understandably arouses suspicion.

Please do stick around -- at least for another twenty postings.

Yep, urls and email addresses are prohibited by admin till 25 posts are reached (hmmmm, it used to be 10 :) ).

To add some balance, I haven't seen any scare stories about them on the travel sites I monitor and even some positive accounts. But this is Chile, so you never know what you might be on the receiving end of depending on the owner or worker's hangover and relationship problems or the phase of the moon and the last chupacabra attack.
Just a SPAM KILLER. You are on your own in this forum. My personal mission here is done.

I will never rent from Alamo again. On my first trip in 2009, I did a lot of checking before renting from them only to find out the "total" price did not include insurance, costing me about another $100 per week. Furthermore, the car they gave me looked like at been through a war or something. I tried a BBB complaint against them when I got home but it was no use. Businesses that don't fully disclose their charges should be avoided.

This year I reserved a car from Rosselot through Nu Car Rentals (<LINK REMOVED DUE TO NEW USER MINIMUM POSTS BEFORE LINKING POLICY>) who had the best price including CDW and had no one-way charges except for mileage. I got a car at the airport and left it at the agent in Viña a couple days later. I also have to complement the agency in Viña for getting me another taking the time to manually write up a contract, and getting me a car while he was dealing with cleanup and lack of electricity a couple days after the quake. I will most likely rent all my cars from Rosselot in the future. Only one caveat: check the addresses in advance. The paperwork led me to the wrong address on Libertad which is a new car dealer. The rental agent is on Alvarez near Centro de Viña.
