Lupinus albusAs a consequence of the rapid expansion of intensive aquaculture in the last decades, fish meal has become limited and expensive. The use of vegetal meal as a substitute for fish meal is nowadays the major challenge for the animal feed industries due to the limited content of essential amino acids present in feed plants. Fundacion is overexpressing high value proteins in seeds of genetically-engineered plants. Currently, Lupinus plants that highly express a seed specific methionine-rich protein are under development.

I have been staying away from Chilean Salmon for a long time now. It is just pumped full of too many chemicals. I had a wild salmon out of river in the Patagonia last summer, and I will never go back to the farmed Salmon.

Part of the solution to declining quality of life (inferior food, increased pollution of air and water, worse traffic, more wars, etc., etc., etc.) is constraint of population. Do I agree with the Chinese solution to that -- forced abortions after the first birth (for all but party officials or bribers)? No. But I'm saddened to see how many supposedly intelligent, well-educated, socially responsible adults still have more than one or two children.

Haaa! There is a pretty nice earthquake right here in Vicuna at this very moment. :) The windows and the floor are vibrating slightly, kind of a massage. :) So refreshing. :) Would it be a solution to the problem? Probably, no. Should be stronger.. just a little bit..... :)
