Building Codes and Enforcement in Coyhaique

Postby spdrcr37 » Wed Nov 19, 2008 2:13 pm

More accurately, about a dozen kilometers outside of Coyhaique.

We're building a cabin there and I wanted to know what, if any, building code enforcement I can expect. We are from Oregon and the cabin will be built somewhere in between our standard specifications and what has been suggested to us in Patagon. Will we have to submit plans and have the project inspected? Snow load, wind load, live load information?

I'm planning to design based on post and beam floors and dimensional rafters, 2x6 walls, 3/8" or 10mm plywood, etc. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Travis

First are you sure you are covered by the Municipality of Coyhaique?

Your building codes will all be set by the local Municipality. In the Patagonia that can range from towns that simply have no urban planning department (although they are suppose to), to strict adherence to the national requirements. In Coyhaique they might even go beyond that basic set.

Not sure at all. 8 miles out of Coyhaique is a long ways, my guess is that we're not within their enforcement area. I guess we'll find out soon enough...
