Sorry, I have been AWOL all week. I just got back from a trip to Chiloe.
I have been mostly watching the floods via CNN, Chilean news, and updates from people in our office. Everyone we know seems to have gotten through it in fairly good shape.
I did finally get to see what was going on though on our flight in from Puerto Montt today. The plane basically descends for 20 mins before Temuco, which is more or less half the distance from Puerto Montt. The last 200 km or so outside of Temuco we are just about a few thousand feet off the ground, and it was a mostly sunny day. Little creeks and rivers had tripled in size. Almost every field now has at least one good size pond or lake in the middle of it.
Word we have is that everything down river from Temuco is flooded to the coast, and the highway is still cut in several places because it runs for about 20 KM right at river level.
