Sorry I did not realize, I was just looking for a little help. Are you an attorney specializing in Adoption?

Re: Adoption in Chile as an Expat

I am interested in a Chilean adoption. I am Chilean, married 11 years to an American. I was born in Chile and came at a very young age of 10 months. I recently was viewing some posts and thought to send a message asking about; the process, reputable non-profit agencies and attorneys. Is it possible to adopt at this time?

I've noticed suggestions to contact SEAME, once on there site I realized it's all in Spanish. I can speak it but limited to reading in Spanish. How can I obtain information in English?

Your assistance is much appreciated!

My husband and I are in the process of adopting from Chile (we are Australians) and the information we can gleam from the internet and others is very limited. SENAME is the only website with official information (naturally) and the other blogs (of which there are very few) I have found just repeat the basics. At the moment, we are having the SENAME site translated for us (my Spanish can only get me so far) but I was hoping that there would be others out there with more information: particularly on the children up for adoption, the process before and after referral, and what is expected once the children come home.

I am also looking to make contact with other families who have or are adopting from Chile.

Please feel free to PM me.
Feel the fear and do it anyway!

Chatthorn: My husband and I are just starting the adoption process here in Chile...we actually are not sure if we want to adopt a Chilean child or adopt a US child and bring them here to Chile (we are US citizens). What agency are you working with to be placed with a child? Have you received a placement already?

Chattthorn,
we looked into adopting in Chile while we were there - knowing we would only be there for 2 years for my (then common-law) husband's work. Sename advised us that we should get married which we did straight away, but in the end that didn't help.
If you are a permanent resident in Chile, then i think you might be ok, but if you are not, you need to adopt through Australia's international adoption program - and each state has it's own rules and regulations.
It was incredibly frustrating to us, as we would have loved to add a little girl to our family, but due to Queensland regulations of needing to be married for 2 years before APPLYING to adopt, it was not possible. Australia and Chile also have age limits on the adoptive parents, and by the time we got through the waiting period and assessment process, my husbnd would have been too old. (And quite frankly, we wanted our adopted child to be of a similar age to our natural children - not years behind.) Fertility issues were asked about by Sename - and as our children were born at 24 and 25 weeks gestation, that qualified us as "technically infertile". Unfortunately, for us it was the Australian side of the process that was the impediment.
All the best to you in your quest.
