AVAILABILTY OF STRAW BALES

Postby Mariposa Azul » Mon Jul 14, 2008 12:33 am

Hi,

Does anyone know if strawbales (like done in the US) are available in Chile. If so are they readily available or only in certain regions? Also what are the approximate dimensions of bale?

Are there extensive permit requirements for owner built house, or does it depend mostly on local conditions?

We're considering building a strawbale home and are trying to get some info.

Thanks

I buy standard 70 pound bales from a neighbor - 8/$10,000 pesos if I recall correctly. Many farmers around Pt. Montt have barns and in this case, lots of straw bales.
Enjoying the beautiful southern peninsula of Puerto Montt in the heart of it all.

In either Iloca or Pichilemu (or on the road inbetween) there is a restaurant constructed of straw bales.
