The bigger problem is upgrading to the newest OS which is Lion (OS 10.7). The good news is that it is not that expensive ($30.USD) but here is the kicker. You need OS 10.6 so that you can download OS 10.7 from the App Store. A friend of mine is sending me his copy of OS 10.6 because it is friggin expensive here in Chile. however, Lion is a 4 gig download so you may need a pretty fast internet to download it.

Yea I've noticed that anything like that is pretty expensive here. I tried to upgrade to Logic 9 back when it came out like two years ago and they told me they didn't even have Logic 8 yet.

just wondering if anyone has downloaded this new OS from the App Store? If so, what has your experience been and how long did it take to download?

I never install a new OS version until after it's first major update which is also reported to be trouble free.

I downloaded it today, gotta say I love it, but when it comes to computers I am a pure consumer (profess no knowledge of the inner workings). Download stalled first few times, shutdown, tried again, about 15 mins to download, then another 15 to install. Easy to use, especially if you are used to touchscreen type technology.
