The nice thing about wordpress is its beautiful design and attention to detail. The interface isn't crowded and it's easy to manage, and it can serve as a basic CMS for some things. Joomla is great too, I'm now using it in a serious project and it has proven to be very reliable. The only thing I don't like are some things in the frontend, especially with the templates... I'm using the 1.0.x branch anyway.

The 1.x branch had some serious administrative interface problems. I am really impressed by the new 1.5x. I am in the middle of doing all my site conversions now (not happy with the conversion path mess they left however). The new templates take a bit of getting use to, but I can see how they will be superior over all the hacks I use to have to do to the 1.x templates to get what I wanted. The 1.x where also really really slow in the back end. The 1.5 is much faster in saving articles and such.
The front of allchile.net is running the 1.5 now with one of their stock templates. The colors just happened to match the forum colors, so I thought I would simplify my life in terms of keeping up this site even if it is not all that original.
