Application for Visa in the UAE

Postby ba3281 on Wed Apr 09, 2008 7:28 am

Hi
I am an Indian national, living in the UAE (Dubai).
We have no Chilean Embassy over here. The nearest one is in Beirut, Lebabnon.
Any information on how to acquire a tourist visa from UAE would be appreciated.

Thanks

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe regardless of nationality, tourist visas are given upon entrance into the country at point of entry.

I'm sorry, not true. This is the list of visa-free countries:

Regarding the original question, call or e-mail the nearest consulate and see what they say. Most probably they can do it by mail. I did my extension of permanencia definitiva by mail once.

Helpful info I found:

According to Timatic, no visa needed for an Indian citizen resident in the UAE. So that just leaves the transit visa question depending on the countries you transit through to get to Chile.

The public interface to Timatic at delta.com wrote:/ 09APR08 / 1639 UTC

National INDIA (IN)
Residence UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (AE)
Destination CHILE (CL)

CHILE (CL)

Passport and visa required.

In all cases:
if passenger holds an APEC Business Travel Card:
visa not required, provided back of card states it is valid
for travel to Chile.

Passenger must hold:
- Tourist Card, issued free of charge, on board aircraft or on
arrival. Validity is 90 days (extension possible); and
- sufficient funds; and
- return or onward ticket.

Exempt from holding return/onward ticket:

when arriving for touristic purposes and holding credit card

or sufficient funds to purchase a ticket.

Minors: foreign minors up to 18 years old travelling:
- alone, are recommended to hold notarised authorisation from

both parents/guardians;
- with one parent or one legal guardian, are recommended to
hold notarised authorisation by the absent parent.

In case minor is adopted, legal permission from both parents
is required (Tribunal Permission/court order).

Non-compliance with entry regulations may result in heavy

fines and deportation at carrier's expense. ...

Eeuunikkeiexpat, what the timatic info says is that Indians (even resident in the UAE) do need a visa for Chile obtained prior to travel, unless they have an APEC business travel card endorsed "valid for Chile" which is harder to get than a normal tourist visa. ba3281 should contact the nearest Chilean consulate, ask them what the requirements are, and send the visa application package by fedex/dhl.

Yep, I misread.

Visa IS required unless the Indian national has an APEC Chile card.
