Need advice - moving to Antofagasta

Postby mikey13 » Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:19 pm

Hi:

I wanted to see if anyone could share some advice. I will be moving to Antofagasta in a few months for a three or four year posting.

First, my 3 year old daughter will be accompanying me (my wife cannot join us at this time until a year or so) - and wanted to see what resources there are for finding a nanny as well as a daycare/preschool. I see there is an international school there, but they only have preschool for a few hours a day. Need someone to care for my daughter while I am at work.

Second, does anyone know what the housing situation is in Antofagasta? Want to rent out a house if possible, otherwise a large flat. Any good realtors or brokers there?

My Spanish is marginal - I know some, but have a long way to go.

Thanks :D

To hire nursing in Antofagasta you can ask at Universidad de Antofagasta or Universidad del Norte, they offer part time babysitter services from their students, you may also hire a peruvian "nana" who are oftenn good and hard workers, you may found it reading classified ads in newspapers or just asking your co-workers, there are everywhere, ask to friends is the most common way of recruitment.

For properties you may check

There are no problem to find a house or flat, but Antofagasta is the most expensive city in Chile

Hi! I will be moving to Antofagasta in October, and I am bringing my wonderful girlfriend Sara with me! She will need a job in Anto, and your need for a nanny seems perfect for us. She doesn't know Spanish, so if you're looking for someone to teach Spanish. sorry. If you want a native English speaking nanny, however, I think we have your best candidate. Hopefully you still need one, if so reply back and I'm sure we will be able to work something out!

Thanks, but the deal didn't quite work out and i didn't end up going. It is possible that it will happen next year.
Anyway, good luck with the move - y'all will have a great adventure.

I was surprised to read that Antofagasta is the most expensive, I would have thought Vina. Is there a list somewhere? Or a comparison chart for Chilean cities?
