Even though Scotiabank in Chile and Scotiabank in Canada are owned by the same company, Scotiabank in Chile is a completely separate subsidiary. Since I have an account at Scotiabank in Canada I naturally thought it would be an easy transition. Wrong! I got the same answer Mark F got when he talked to Citibank. Just because Scotiabank is a Canadian owned bank it still follows all the rules and protocols and beauracracy of any Chilean bank.

Yeah, I had a similar experiance, I have all my banking with ScotiaBank here in Canada and thought that there may have been the possiblility that I could transfer money back and forth easily. After getting to Chile I found out I was completely wrong. But I could take money from my Canadian account at any ScotiaBank with out having to pay the $5.00 service charge.

I thought this case may have been different and they would have been better conected to Canadian banks than the rest.

My information may be out of date, but, at one time, at least, HSBC (the old Hong Kong & Shanghai Bank, now headquartered in London) was the multinational bank with the best (and least costly to us customers) connections between branches.

To be honest with you, after the dissapointment and anger for not been able to get our money in 3 days or so and been resigned to something I had no control over it....the payment in return was ( to my surprise) US$13 extra.....now I CAN GO SHOPPING...:-) and by the way....I'm grateful for your correction RWS, I usually fall of the wagon in grammar.
