SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - Foreign investments in Chile almost doubled in 2007, growing to $15.4 billion (9.9 billion euros) from $7.9 billion (5.1 billion euros) a year earlier, the government's Foreign Investments Committee reported Wednesday.
Committee head Carlos Mena said the increase was caused mainly by the reinvestment of nearly $10 billion in profits earned in the country by international businesses.
Canadian funds accounted by the largest amount of foreign investment in 2007 with $330 million (213 million euros), followed by the United States with $265 million (171 million euros), Colombia with $194 million (125 million euros) and Spain with $105 million (68 million euros).
