Getting nonimmigrant visas to the US

Postby Juanito on Sat Feb 23, 2008 6:54 pm

Okay, so I'm getting married to my beautiful Chilean bride through the civil here in Chile, at the end of March. The plan is to have the church wedding in early June in Mississippi. We're planning on applying for her to get a Visa right after the marriage por el civil, and we also want her parents to get visas to be able to attend the wedding in the US.

I know we could do the fiancee visa (K), even being married, but I don't know that this would be any faster right now. I'm really only concerned about getting them to the US for the date in June.

I think it would be easiest if we just do the DS-156 for her and her parents. Any thoughts on this?

Also how long does the process take? I know we have to go through the whole phone call thing to get an interview time for them, how long does it take? How far in advance? Could we potentially call now and get an interview time for April? I've heard that it takes 2 months.

Anybody who understands the sistema, please share your wisdom with me. No cacho na.

My dad, and a church in the US are preparing letters of invitation, so I expect that will help.

As a lawyer who's done a fair amount of immigration work, I'd be happy to help you. But every attorney (in my jurisdiction, at least, and probably in all in the country) is ethically barred from giving legal advice without an attorney-client relationship. So you should consult your own attorney for the best, most reliable guidance (of course, if you've the patience and discernment, you could call the agency directly).
