Thanks for the info. I will search what you said and hopefully come up with some answers. I am from Canada and I hope there will be no problems living there on a tourist visa . Could you tell me a bit more about a rotating tourist card and is it hard to get and what it actually does. Would that be a better way to go? Thanks again -Joey.............

Rotating tourist card = living on a tourist visa. Every 90 days I go away, a Permanent Tourist so they say, and then come back to continue on my low-profile hack.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome and have you ever had any problems getting the border to issue you another 90 day tourist visa and will they always issue the 90 days or less and then have to return more early for another run, Thanks for the information you are giving me as I am nerves on staying on the tourist visa, I just want to make sure there is no problems to do this. Do you know if a lot of people stay on a tourist visa and just keep renewing it? Thanks again - Joey...

I would say this whole continual living on a tourist visa thing should be the least of your worries as I am proof it is not a problem. I would be more concerned about the purchasing and maintaining property you talked about. Lots of pitfalls there for the uninformed and lots of good info on this forum to help in that area or you can just hire admin Charles' company to advise and do the legal stuff.

Thanks for the information but have they ever issue you a 30 day tourist card ? I just want to know if they always issue the 90 day one. As for purchasing land , I have friends from Chile and that live there , as well a friend that builds homes paid by the government that lives there. So for sure I will be getting alot of information before making the purchase. When the time comes I will be getting the help I need , for now just finding the proper area and of course price. For me it is location that matters. Then I will take my time to make sure taxes are paid and checking city hall records and so on. I will have people that already have went threw this process there to advise me of the steps to take. I have just returned from Chile, I was there for 2 months and I will return next year for over 2 months. I visited Valpro. for a day there, alot of houses on a mountain, toooo many for me. I will have to find out about what has to be paid after purchasing land. example land tax and ?? Any info. would be great. Thank-you for all your help and look forward to what ever advice you can help me with, - Joey......

Oh, no, Joey, don't be penny wise and pound foolish! Don't rely upon yourself to do the work that a lawyer can do better. Spend the extra money to retain the services of an attorney and to buy title insurance. That's the best advice that I can give you.

Thanks for your advise, for sure I will be hiring a Lawyer to do all the legal stuff. First I will do as much work myself as well with my friends for I want to know as much as possible of purchasing property in Chile. I will be taking my time and asking around and checking with other people that have bought there. So the more info. the better informed I will be..............

Never had a less than 90 day stamp or if I did, the outgoing Immigrations official never said anything. Completing 7 years here....

here is the problem with "doing it yourself" in Chile, is that there is always something else. I don't mean to discourage you to try on your own at all. Honestly, our best clients are the ones that tried to do it themselves. We prefer them, because they appreciate what it is we do. In fact, most of the information is already here on the forum or the wiki for free that you would need, including a lot of the possible pitfalls. The search function for the forum will basically give you an encyclopedia of how to buy property in Chile. The problem is the things we did not think to cover, but will bite you anyway.

The problem is that you need to do about 10 to 20 property deals ( just a guess ) in Chile before you start getting the swing of "everything that can go wrong will go wrong". More exactly being on the alert for those points in a property deal where things might go wrong. Not every deal is a pain or a problem, just you get this sixth sense about certain steps being that type of step that will cause a whole lot of bureaucratic or legal problems. Just coming in to the market and the country, you might not realized you made a mistake until years later.

You don't have to hire us, but hire someone to help you out.
