About ...some music

Postby zulu789 on Sun Feb 10, 2008 12:24 pm

On my trips on the Idiot's Box , I came across of some music video .

The video belong to Francisca Valenzuela or "Fran" , name used by her fans.
Francisca Valenzuela was born in the States , San Francisco was her home until she reached 12, after that she moved to Chile.

While in the States she studied music from the age of 7 and played piano and guitar by the age of 10.

Along with this she wrote poetry, and all her works were published in 2000 under the book titled “Defenseless Waters”, this was in time endorsed by Isabel Allende.

At 13 she moved to Chile and later on she attended Berklee College School of Music in the USA.

In 2006 she was able to record the single "Peces" (fishes) a song originally composed when she was 13.
A sour critic to relationships going wrong and the memories left behind.
This little piece let you perceive the poet's side as wel las the very talented musician behind.

This song was a big hit on the Chilean radios with a lot of airplay.
It was mentioned by Rolling Stone as one of the most important songs of 2006.

On May 2007 was opening act for Julieta Venegas, top pop performer from Mexico on Teatro Caupolicán. Since then a close friendship was developed between the two.

Her first LP is named 'Muérdete la lengua' ( Bite your tongue) was launched on June 2007.

On this you can get "Peces" and "Dulce" the follow up success to the original "Peces' .

Her music style mix of Jazz and pop with certain brushes of classical, specially on the part of keyboards mixes very well with a voice a la Fiona Apple and the delivery of Sheryl Crow on her most bluesy day.

She currently is on her third year of Journalism and attends Universidad Catolica.

Couple of tunes worth checking:

"Peces" original first exit , the door opener

"Excavador de tumbas" (Gravedigger) :a perfect mix of modern and classic with a witty twist. Very Interesting listening at 2:07 of the song

"Afortunada" (Fortunate one):let's out the classical music education on her .Very soft and mellow piece with a moderate crescendo, very good use the piano (1:50) without being overwhelming a la Tori Amos. Very nicely done

"Muerdete la lengua"' (Bite your tongue):a real show of force with acoustic guitars and a strong beat( can't take the opening drums and the guitar riff out of my head).

This is the video that made me discover her.

You can read about her , and watch some of her videos "Dulce" and "Muerdete la Lengua' here:
