Hotel Paris - Stgo.

Just a heads up for you. I cannot recommend it anymore. I've stayed here a few times before, it's cheap, it's clean and it's centrally located in Santiago. But I had someone break into my room the last time I was there, two weeks ago. A Brazilian woman also had her room broken into and had her digital camera stolen. When I came back to my room it was a shock to see my stuff strewn around messily on the bed when I had left it all packed away in my suitcase. I was lucky in that nothing of value was taken from me. Only two pair of underwear! Yes, you read that correctly. Two pair of underwear. The carabeneiros investigating the break in's were amused, (underwear?) I was baffled. Well, they were very nice underwear :) half & half's they are called, half boxer half briefs. The thiefs came in through the transom thing over the door. There is no latch you can just push it open from outside and if you're limber enough climb right up through them. I doubt the owner will remedy the situation with the transoms. I like the place but, at your risk.

Mucha' Gracia' Chuck for the warning.

I have been there 4 times for the reasons you stated. But I guess I will steer clear from this point on.

Glad my leveraged gold and silver specs are kickin' ass so I can now afford better accommodations when I pass through Santiasco.

Another warning, not theft, since it is summertime — no AC!

Hi Chuck,
I stayed there in 07 and couldn't lock the room at all. I think I mentioned my security concerns back when I recommended the place. Thanks for the heads up, I'll also leave any high end briefs at home from now on
