just back from Copiapó, Bahía La Virgen, Bahía Inglesa.

Nicest beaches I've ever seen in Chile. White sand, turquoise and transparent water. Will upload some pics later...

(Water temperature: 15°C or 59F)

in california most of the beaches are cold. north of point conception the water is cold due to the current coming from the north. south of point conception the water is warmer due to the back current / swirl nature of the ocean's movement. wanna freeze your buns off? just try swimming off big sur without a wetsuit. heh heh, ask me how i know. when most people think of california beaches they are thinking of those south of point conception. looking at the map, i dont see any such comparable landform to divert the cold southern ocean current away from the beaches in chile. correct me if im wrong

Of course what I know of California may be more dreaming than reality. A vision of a seeming paradise developed over the years from watching movies and such. I say paradise in terms of the beaches mind you and such natural things and am most certainly not referring to the burdensome regulations and governmental sheenanigans n California.

Brrr...that is COLD! I used to live in Florida and the ocean water was a beautiful 75 or 80F (that's really weird - some kind of dancing icon shows up when I meant to say eighty degrees).

There is a trade off, even Arica waters are relatively cold due Hundboldt stream but this cold water moderates the weather, prevent of excessive hot in summer, prevent from meduses, sharks, mosquitoes and many disgusting things usual in tropical paradises.

I have been in Florida a couple of times and it is a nice place to visit, but God!!! imposible to live there without a/c, water temperature is nice but once you go out of water is like to be breathing direct from a hairdryer!

True, true. Most of life is a trade-off, isn't it?

But I have childhood memories of warm, pure Mediterranean waters along a mild and temperate coast . . . . Perhaps I dreamt it.
