I am so done with Windows XP

Anything at all (keep it clean) goes here that does not fit in to any of the other forums.

You've only acute accents (which you already know you can receive intact), tildes (the squeagly mark above some "n"s in Spanish, "~"), and diareses as diacritical marks in Spanish. So, if you can read, for example, "cañonígüete", you know that your new platform and program work well for Chile, too.

in french we have more accents than does spanish (to the best of my knowledge)

first there is the circonflexe above vowels - usually which indicates the former presence of an "s" in the word. there is the cedille used under the letter "c" to indicate an "s" sound when the rules say it should be a "k" sound. there is the trema to indicate an exception to the dipthong rules and the vowels are to be pronounced as two syllables. finally there is the accent grave which slants the opposite way from the accent aigu (acute) and indicates a "soft" vowel rather than a "hard" one.

anyway back on topic: is anyone interested in the soon to be released ubuntu version - hardy heron? i cant get midi to work with my edgy eft that i have loaded here on my desktop ordinater and reading on the ubuntu forum, this is a problem with edgy. i hope that hardy fixes that as well as the impossibility of burning a DVD (at least for me) i have a longstanding video project that is disrupted by my poor ordinater skills - especially DVD burning.

As that's what I wrote, implicitly, I do believe it to be correct: just three diacritical marks: an accent grave to indicate emphasis, a tilde to change pronunciation of the letter "n" from a simple hard sound to a sliding one, and a diaresis to indicate pronunciation of a vowel (usually "u") in a manner differing from what a reader would anticipate by application of general rules of pronunciation.

Spanish is simpler than French in many ways.

FYI the new Ubuntu version (Hardy Heron) is now available. I've been playing around with the Release Candidate versions and it looks good so far. I especially fancy the Pulseaudio sound server, which among its features, it allows you to set specific volumes for each open application just like in Windows Vista.

I don't know how's that distro in terms of localization, but at least in Spanish everything's OK except for some help files and applications.

Now, that’s more like it. I took a nap earlier today while it was downloading it. I’ll install it later tonight.

this isnt a story its a saga..... i had gutsy but i detested winduds and so i flushed it out by my copy of gutsy (that i BOUGHT) was bad, so i had nothing. then i found my original copy of edgy that i had made and it installed fine. then i wait till the 24th to upgrade to hardy, only to find out that i first had to upgrade to feisty then to gutsy then to hardy. ok so i begin... only to find out LATER that i first had to download and install the latest version of edgy or else it might not work rite, it didnt...... so three downloads later i have a poorly working version of feisty. im considering installing gutsy (from a good(?) free copy) and then upgrading to hardy, but ill lose my open office work as i cant burn to a cd..... my family is sick of hearing the saga, they just want it to work
