I fired off a PM to tombrad2 to see how he was doing, and see if he could give us some first hand information.

Who else do we have up North? I know we have a few people there, I just can never remember who is where, when.

I sent a PM to Chuck J to see if he has any news.

So far I do not see any reports of deaths. Some building damaged, a few cars have been crushed. Still fairly early however.

I saw a video of a landslide occurring at Chuqui copper mine sent by a witness to MEGA. ONEMI has confirmed it and there are trapped miners.

From Reuters regarding why the copper price jump:
Copper prices jumped by as much as 6.29 percent to $3.3040 a pound on the New York Mercantile Exchange's COMEX division as huge copper mines reported they were without power.

Yes there were a bunch of live action clips when all the major Chile stations were reporting between 1 and 3 pm. You will have to wait till the afternoon soaps and shows are over to see them.

Try YouTube.

Chilean News sites

Postby admin on Wed Nov 14, 2007 4:25 pm

Yea, I tried cruzing some of the Chilean news station web sites, but their sites are so full of spam popups and animated flash garbage (I really hate Chilean web sites).

Every time I visit one it is like stepping back in internet history about 8 years (outdated standards, all flash, little to no real text, notices that they only support internet explorer, and the assumption that everyone is in downtown Santiago and bandwidth is no problem).

Nothing too serious

Postby tombrad2 on Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:03 pm

In Arica nothing happened, just a very soft and long movement, some people dont even notice it.

Major damages in Calama and Maria Elena, some injured but no deads it seems, elctric blackout during 1 hour more or less now returned to normal. It was deep into desert near Quillagua, just in the border between Iquique and Antofagasta, no danger of tsunami because it was inland

everithyng OK, maybe Chuck was a little afraid because he is living in front of the sea "el rompeolas" :-D

No tsunami. ;) It was just a swaying for 10 or 15 seconds here. I grew up in the Silcon Valley so this was kind of tame.

The power and water is still off in my apartment complex though so im in town at a cyber cafe. I dont know why its off at my apt and on in town. Unless the kids here are f**k**g with my water inlet again. I swear, im gonna smack the little punk Fernando.

If we ever have a tsunami here im basically screwed since I live 1/2 of a mile from the beach.

Have we accounted for all of our Northern Chile members, or do we need to send out the search parties for anyone else?
