temuco lodging

OK, I´m actually here and on the road to Temuco area. Any recommendations for reasonably priced cabañas, hosteles, or 2-3 star hotels in the area? Looking at Pucon, but not liking the prices....

I can't help you right now with places in Temuco - except to tell you that there are three conventions in town and it is a BOOKED up. We just arrived last evening, and "in town" isn't a sure thing at all. Possibly you might stop at some of the hospadajes on the Autopista Sur...If I hear of anything, I will jump back on and let you know asap! You also might want to try checking out http://www.allsouthernchile.com for some possibilities. Good luck.

Vicki - BTW thanks for the tip to avoid Temuco conventions. Not that we even made it that far that day due to the flat tire saga that consumed half a day in Los Angeles. Now happily ensconced in Villarrica for a month.

Travel tip for the masses: beware Allamo car rental. I had all four tires worn down to the belts. Not easily observable either, since the wear was all on the inside tread (bad toe-in alignment). Very scary condition that I didn't pick up on during my initial examination of the car. They may yet redeem themselves if I get reimbursed for the cost of a pair of fresh tires. If not, then it's definite s**t-list.

You may try Couchsurfing. Usually, to bring a bottle and a good deal of kindness is enough.

Nerby Temuco you can find very nice cabanas. We spend there 5 days at the foot of the volcano Llaima when it erupted in January 2008. Not far from the National park Conguillio.

You are going to want to check the new user linking policy. That link also appears to be dead anyway.
