Re: customs agent for importing container

Reminder. When you list the contents and per item values, do so at USED prices. Used as in yard sale value, distress liquidation sale value. Not purchase price and not sentimental value. But surely the same valuation will then have to be used for the marine insurance, leaving you without enough mon...

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

That was 150 mil for a 3-door cabinet because the original cabinet doors are no longer available and have to be replicated using some special paint job (which is actually almost indistinguishable from the original -- no, I don't think they're having me on...). Was that 150 for the cabinets + instal...

Re: someone shot my cat

Sounds like some neighbour doesn't like all your cats wandering around. A few years ago, one of our cats was run over and another poisoned within a couple of months. An unknown cat inexplicably turned up dead in our garden some years earlier. Pulling out a shotgun is a bit extreme, even for the arse...

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

I think it's just going to depend on the individual landlord whether you get most of it back easily, but no harm in knowing any relevant regulations. Oh, hadn't spotted this: Was it expensive to have installed, or did you do it yourself? I know the cabinets are cheap, if anything does need replacing...

Re: are charges for rental property damage based on "useful life"?

I just split the cost of replacing a kitchen cabinet (that turned out to be a bit of a pain) ruined by a tap that had been left dripping 50/50 with the tenant, but that's just me. When I have rented here outside my employer's premises I have got all my deposit back on one occasion and none of it (wi...

Indeed. It's hard enough keeping your undercarriage intact in La Serena on dry roads. Better make that a 100 million dollar+ aeroplane, I should think?

Re: Investing in International Stock Markets from Chile

Just FYI, a TD representative states that "We are not able to accept accounts for US nationals or residents at all". I thought I had read somewhere that they did take American customers but that appears not to be the case now, unfortunately.

That's a good choice if you're using your computer for documents and browsing. But Linux lacks hundreds of professional apps due to its desktop market share.

Yeah, that argument could easily go either way, depending on your profession.

Re: Wages for locals

Then there's the Quebec backdoor where all you need to do is mumble something remotely resembling French to get in. Last time I arrived in Quebec and mumbled something remotely resembling French (admittedly not my strong point, especially after an all-night flight), the young Quebecoise immigration...

Re: Chilean stock market hits 3 year high, what the hell?

For instance, the IPSA. I have this ETF / Muetual fund that tracks the the IPSA: http://www.bolsadesantiago.com/mercado/Paginas/Resumen-de-Instrumento.aspx?NEMO=CFMITNIPSA It is up like 15% this year, I am not really happy with it, but it keeps going up so I am willing to play along for now. Ah, yo...
