Re: first post from the amazon!!!!

Skipped over this thread for a few days, assuming it was about a courier company, but now I see: dugout canoeing like a sir! :D Nice one. Saúde! Not sure what season it might be in the Amazon, but here out to the west it's the wet buggy season. There are strange things happening with the images in t...

Re: Is it time to swap your Mac for a Window's laptop?

Saw this interesting article and thought I would share it with other forumites. Is it time to swap your Mac for a Windows laptop? Hell, no! The article is totally weird... guy complains first about price, then he lists a bunch of things wrong with the Surface: * being bombarded with advertising * f...

Re: Wages for locals

We had a Venezuelan lady show up at our place the other day looking for work, no experience at anything. My wife offered a start at the minimum wage, as she did have a visa. She replied "I've come too far to work for such a miserable wage" I suspect the lady in question was right, and it ...

Re: Eireann

Proinsias, you're missing an 's'. And I will happily go to my grave without knowing what Peig did with her tampons ;-) I'm not actually in Curiñanco, I just have 600m2 there, I'm a bit further up the coast actually :-D

Re: Eireann

My Irish went well until the end of primary school, then in secondary school the teaching was by a catholic fascist priest who told me that since I spoke "city Irish", I would never do well in the language. You must feel at home in Valdivia, it's the Irish climate in reverse. Go out to Cur...

Re: Eireann

Peig Sayers would throw anyone over the edge, even so, it's a language with rich literature. But, as Alan says, very badly taught. Alan, are you the Irish Journal writer? Or am I randomly conflating things?

Re: Venezuela Wake, countdown to implosion

There really is no crime recognized in international law for a government to actively blocking people from being able to take care of themselves. A large part of Venezuelas problems have been caused by the malign influence of Fidel Castro. Both Chavez and Maduro were Castro disciples, and have succ...

Re: 7.7 chiloe quake

Sounds like you all had a good shaking for Christmas :-D Chile seems to have got off lightly compared to the same magnitude (well, 7.8 ) quake here in Ecuador in April.
